When Your Designer Is Gone but Your Squarespace Site Needs Love

Fix an old squarespace website in nz

A lot of people think they have to stick with the designer who originally built their Squarespace site. Maybe things fizzled out. Maybe you never vibed with them. Maybe your designer moved into a new career or stopped taking on client work. Or maybe the site just feels dated and you do not know where to start. The good news is that you do not need to rebuild the whole site to work with a new designer. You can bring someone else in to update, refresh, or completely rework what you already have.

I can work on sites built by other designers. In fact, I do it all the time.

You keep the original build and I work quietly in the background

Most Squarespace designers give you full site ownership once the project is finished. I do the same. Once a site is handed back, it becomes yours. Which means you can give me access at any point and I can jump in the back like a quiet little fairy godmother who tidies things up, modernises the content, and sorts out all the bits you do not have time for.

Right now I am working with two clients in exactly this way. One has a beautiful design that still feels current. The structure and content needed updating, so I freshened it up while keeping the aesthetic completely intact. In cases like this I stay invisible. I simply help you get the most out of what you already have.

Or you can ask for a full refresh without a full rebuild

Sometimes people want something bigger. A client with a large engineering site recently asked for a complete design refresh. They loved the bones of the site but wanted new structure, new layouts, and a cleaner, more modern feel. Rebuilding the entire website would have been a huge job, so instead I worked behind the scenes, revamped the design, created new pages, and then we pushed everything live. Same platform. Fresh new look.

What about design credit

If the original design stays the same, I always leave the original designer’s credit in place. That is their work and it deserves to be acknowledged. If the design has been significantly changed or fully refreshed, I usually remove the original credit and replace it with something simple like “Site refresh by Made By Markham”.

You do not need a brand new site to feel like you have one

If you love Squarespace but not your current setup. If you do not want the awkward conversation with your previous designer. If you just want someone who can quietly take the wheel and get things sorted for you within the same platform.

I can help.

All I need is Squarespace access and I can take care of the rest. Fresh content. Better structure. Clean design. A modernised setup that feels like the version of your business you are ready to put forward.

If you want to breathe life back into your current Squarespace site, you know where to find me.
