Why Every Business Deserves a Custom Website Design
When people start looking for a website designer, one of the first things they do is browse portfolios.
It’s completely understandable. You want to know whether the designer’s work matches the style you’re looking for.
But here’s something you might notice if you look through my portfolio…
No two websites look the same.
That’s intentional.
As a website designer based in New Zealand, I don’t believe every business should fit into the same design template or visual style. My role isn’t to create the website I like best. It’s to create a website that reflects your business, your customers and your goals.
Your Website Should Reflect Your Business
A wedding venue should feel completely different to a physiotherapy clinic.
An accountant shouldn’t have the same website style as a florist.
A tourism business shouldn’t look like an online store.
Every business has its own personality, and your website should communicate that from the moment someone lands on the homepage.
That’s why every custom website I design starts with understanding your business first, rather than choosing colours or fonts.
It’s About More Than Just Design
One thing many clients don’t expect is how much time we spend on the content.
Some arrive with beautifully written copy.
Others have a rough draft, a handful of notes or simply know what they want to say but aren’t sure how to say it.
That’s completely normal.
One of my favourite parts of the process is helping shape that content into something that’s clear, engaging and easy for visitors to understand.
A great website isn’t just about looking professional. It’s about communicating the right message.
Why I Don’t Have a Signature Style
Some designers are known for a particular aesthetic.
There’s nothing wrong with that.
I’ve simply chosen a different approach.
Whether I’m building a Squarespace website for a flower farm, a leadership consultant, a physiotherapy clinic or an ecommerce store, the design should feel like their brand, not mine.
If every website in my portfolio looked identical, I’d feel like I hadn’t done my job.
The Best Websites Feel Authentic
At the end of the day, your website isn’t there to impress other designers.
It’s there to connect with your ideal customers.
That’s why I believe a custom website design will always outperform a one-size-fits-all solution.
When your website genuinely reflects who you are, visitors notice. They trust it. They remember it. And they’re far more likely to get in touch.
If you’re looking for a website that feels genuinely yours rather than just another template, I’d love to hear about your business. Every project starts with a conversation, and together we’ll create a website that reflects who you are and what you do best.
